50 monkeys killed as lightning strikes tamarind tree in Odisha’s Balasore

Bhubaneswar: At least 50 monkeys were killed in lightning strike at Gadasahi Baliapala panchayat under Jaleswar block in Balasore district of Odisha today.

The incident took place when the monkeys were perching on a 150-year-old tamarind tree at the backyard of one Pratap Majhi in the evening, villagers said.

“Lightning struck the tamarind tree when nor’wester rain lashed the locality in the evening. The carcasses of at least 50 monkeys were found near the tree soon after the rain,” said a villager.
