53 students of Govt school in Odisha’s Sundargarh test COVID positive

Rourkela: As many as 53 girl students of a Government-run high school in Sundargarh have tested positive for COVID-19. However, condition of all the infectees is stated to be stable.

As per reports 53 students from Class 8 to 10 of St Marys Girls High School have contracted the virus and been kept under isolation. All the students, who were staying in school hostel, were asymptomatic.

In view of detection of the positive cases, the school will remain closed for seven days and sanitization of the entire campus will be carried out during the period.

On November 19, a student of the school had first contracted the virus, following which swab samples of all 624 students were sent for COVID-19 testing. Reports of 53 students have come out positive. A nurse has been engaged at the school to monitor their health conditions, said District Education Officer (DEO) Amulya Pradhan.

Earlier yesterday, 22 students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur district were found positive for the virus.

Recently, the medical college had hosted its annual function UTKARSH-2021, which was attended by hundreds of students. Many of the students had reportedly violated COVID-19 guidelines by not wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
