Bhubaneswar: Of 136 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Odisha today, 54 are of ODRAF, NDRF and Fire Services personnel from the State deployed on Cyclone AMPHAN duty in West Bengal.

According to State Information & Public Relations (I&PR) Department, the personnel of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Fire Services had recently returned from Cyclone AMPHAN duty.

They were all in quarantine centres following their return from West Bengal. Their swabs were collected from the quarantine centres and the results came out positive for COVID-19.

With this, total 115 ODRAF/NDRF/Fire Services personnel were infected with novel coronavirus in Odisha.

Earlier, 49 NDRF personnel belonging to the third NDRF battalion at Mundali in Cuttack and 12 personnel of Odisha Fire Services engaged on duty in Cyclone AMPHAN-ravaged West Bengal had tested positive for the deadly virus.

With increasing cases of COVID-19, Odisha's tally now surged to 3386, of which 1092 are active cases and 2282 recovered cases so far. As of now, the virus has claimed 9 lives in the State.
