59-year-old man with black, white and yellow fungus passes away

Ghaziabad/Bhubaneswar: A 59-year-old man from Ghaziabad who was diagnosed with Covid-19 and then with black, white and yellow fungus passed away here on Saturday.

“Kunwar Singh was under treatment but passed away due to toxemia (blood poisoning by toxins) at 7.30 pm on Friday,” hospital authorities told PTI.

Singh, a lawyer by profession, had approached Harsh Hospital in Raj Nagar after developing Covid symptoms.

“The yellow fungus, besides white and black fungus, was detected during endoscopy on May 24,” the doctor attending him said.

Ghaziabad has so far registered 434 Covid-related deaths according to official government figures. The city also has 1,779 active cases.

On the other hand, 65 patients have developed fungus out of which one has died. 31 out of the 65 have recovered while 33 are still undergoing treatment.

Following the rise in fungus cases, the Uttar Pradesh government added black fungus or mucormycosis disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act.
