Odisha: 6 held over gangrape of minor girl at a Dhaba in Burla

Burla: Burla police today arrested six persons, including a woman, in connection with the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in a car here on July 30.

The accused have been identified as Akash Das (28) of Bargarh, Manoj Kata (27) of Modipada, Sanyasi Pradhan (27) of Titlagarh, Binod Jhara (20) of Bargarh, Jagadish Mahananda (54) of Burla and Sujata Das (34) of Kuchinda.

The police have registered a case under section 366/328/370/376-D/114 of IPC and Sec 6 & 17 of POCSO Act on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.

According to police, Sujata had allegedly lured the 16-year-old victim to a Dhaba (roadside eatery) at Katapali for a sumptuous dinner at 8 pm last Saturday. Sujata in connivance with Samaleshwari Dhaba owner intoxicated the girl. Subsequently, the victim was gangraped inside the car, police said.

The victim’s father upon not finding her daughter till late in the night filed a complaint with the police. On being informed, the police rescued the girl from the crime scene and admitted her to VIMSAR, Burla for treatment. The car used in the crime has also been seized.

The victim is undergoing treatment at the medical college and hospital. After discharge, her statement will be recorded, police said in a statement.
