Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police today arrested six touts, including four ambulance drivers, on charges of diverting patients to other private hospitals from SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh informed that the Mangalabag police arrested two staff of SCB and four ambulance drivers for sending patients visiting the state-run hospital to other private hospitals.

Several other medical staff and doctors are suspected to be involved in the racket. Stern action will be taken against them at the earliest as per law, the senior cop added.

Earlier in 2019, allegations used to frequently surface that middlemen were sending patients coming to Government hospitals like SCB and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar to several private hospitals to get commission. Following the allegations, police kept a strict vigil on activities of such brokers and conducted crackdowns to arrest them.
