Bhubaneswar: A six-year-old girl died of suspected dengue fever at a private hospital in Odisha capital yesterday.

The girl was a student of Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir at Dharma Vihar in the city here.

The girl was suffering from fever for the last few days. Later, she tested positive for dengue, sources said.

“The girl was administered medicines as per the advice of a doctor. She was admitted to a private hospital on Friday after her condition deteriorated. She died while being treated at the private hospital yesterday,” said a source.

The girl’s parents, meanwhile, have alleged medical negligence for her death.

As per the allegation, the girl’s parents had deposited Rs 45,000 while admitting her at the private hospital. They had planned to shift the girl to somewhere else as there was no improvement in her condition. But, the hospital authorities reportedly assured them of better treatment.

The hospital authorities declared the girl dead yesterday and reportedly sought Rs 2 lakh from her parents to release her body.

The body was later handed over the girl’s family at the behest of Khandagiri police.
