61-day fishing ban comes into force in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In order to conserve and ensure effective management of fishery resources, the Odisha government imposed a ban on fishing in sea by fishing vessels for 61 days like every year.

In exercise of the power conferred under the Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act 1982, the State government prohibited fishing within the territorial waters along the entire coastline of Odisha by all the fishing vessels from April 15 to June 14.

However, the fishing ban order does not apply to traditional fishing crafts up to 8.5 metres with or without engine.

The decision was taken for sea safety reasons as well.
