65-year-old held for raping married woman in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Bhubaneswar: The police today arrested a 65-year-old man on charges of raping a married woman in Sundargarh district of Odisha on April 6.

Accused Arjun Ekka has been produced in a local court, said an official of Brahmani Tarang Police Station in Sundargarh district.

According to police, Ekka had gone to the house of one of his neighbours at around 8 pm on April 6. He had allegedly raped the 47-year-old wife of his neighbour after finding her alone in the house. The victim’s husband had gone to a nearby market during the incident, police said.

Ekka had also warned the victim of dire consequences if she reveals the incident to anyone, police added.

Victim’s husband had lodged a complaint in this regard with police on April 6.

“We had registered a case on the basis of an FIR lodged by the victim’s husband and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. We managed to arrest the accused today,” said the police officer.
