65-YO Odisha woman attending to granddaughter in hospital gang-raped

Dhenkanal: A 65-year-old woman, who was attending to her ailing granddaughter at a state-run hospital in Dhenkanal district, was allegedly gang-raped.

The shameful incident came to fore following the survivor’s treatment at the hospital.

According to reports, the elderly woman minor granddaughter (daughter’s daughter) of Anthukudakateni village under Gandia police limits was undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Dhenkanal, for fever. The woman had been attending to her at the hospital in last 10 days.

On April 27, two youth allegedly took the elderly woman outside the hospital finding her alone near the patient. The duo raped her near a pond and abandoned the victim there thinking her dead. The next morning i.e on April 28, the gang rape survivor walked to the hospital after regaining her consciousness and underwent treatment.

Following the incident, Dhenkanal Town Police registered a Suo Moto case and initiated investigation. The police detained two accused persons in connection with the incident.
