Logos play an important role in brand awareness and recall for a business. In this day and age of globalisation where our markets and lives are filled with various national and international brands, we thought of compiling a list of quintessential Odia brands and their logos that have created a special place for themselves in Odisha.
This Odia daily, founded by Utkalamani Pandit Gopabandhu Das in 1919, is a household name in Odisha when it comes to newspapers. While it’s contemporaries like The Prajatantra and Matrubhoomi failed to keep up with technology and competition, The Samaja, at 96, is still going strong and enjoys sharp brand recall.
One of the oldest jewellery shops in Odisha, Khimji Jewellers, founded in 1936 by Khimji Dayabhai, have successfully become a sought after jewellery brand with multiple stores throughout the State. With striking presence in print, electronic and outdoor media, Khimji’s red logo is hard to be missed.
This name is almost synonymous with fashion shopping in Odisha. Even with the advent of new shopping malls and flagship stores of national brands, Kalamandir has remained a favourite with the masses for almost every occasion, be it weddings or festivals. You would hardly find anyone in Odisha who hasn’t heard of or visited their massive store in Market Building, Bhubaneswar at least once.
Starting out as a local cable channel in 1997, OTV, founded by Jagi Mangat Panda, has established its dominance in the field of electronic media.
Once upon a time OTV was one of the only two private news channels in Odisha. Today there are dozens of new entrants in the market giving cut throat competition but OTV has managed to maintain its supremacy.
Boyanika, over the last 50 years, has gained wide recognition as Odisha’s premium handloom brand representing the weavers’ cooperative societies of the State. Under the government’s department of handlooms, textiles and handicrafts, Boyanika produces finest designs and hand weaves like Ikkat, Kotpad, Bomkai etc in various segments.
- Mayfair Hotels
Mayfair Hotels and Resorts changed the way people looked at hotels in Odisha. Founded by Dilip Ray with its first hotel in Rourkela in the 90’s, Mayfair Hotels and Resorts now have presence in more than 7 locations. The brand Mayfair has come to be known for its themed ambience and professionalism.
OMFED (The Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited) has come a long way since it came into existence in 1965. No morning in an Odia household begins without the delivery of an Omfed milk packet. Today OMFED’s packaged milk and milk products are heavily consumed throughout the state.
