Bhubaneswar, Apr 21:

Commissionerate Police, along with behavioural science experts from KIIT and Utkal University, two premier universities of Odisha, imparted practical oriented training to as many as 70 police personnel in the second phase of the initiative at the Commissionerate Police Headquarter here on Monday.

The initiative by the commissionerate police is aimed at bringing about behavioural and attitudinal changes in the way police personnel deal with the public when the latter come to them to register a case.

Officers of the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACPs) rank attended the second phase training programme, which will continue till tomorrow.

Training on stress management, time management, yoga, courses on nutrition, attitude towards family and meditation were given to police personnel by a team led by Prof Pratap Rath, Professor  of psychology in Utkal University and 3-4 staffs from KIIT. The yoga and meditation session was carried out by the Bhubaneswar Units of Patanjali Yoga Trust and Brahmakumari organisation.

This apart, the personnel were also shown short documentaries based on behavioural changes.

Twin city Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr R P Sharma exuded hope that the training will help reduce the distance between the police and the public.

Attributing the less-than-cordial behaviour of policemen to the acute shortage of manpower in various police stations leading to stress, the CP said a huge number of pending cases in various police stations also add to the pressure. “The training will greatly help the personnel in changing their attitudes towards the public,” Dr Sharma said.
