7th KPL cricket tourney kicks off

The 7th edition of KIIT Premier League (KPL) cricket tournament was formally inaugurated by Ashirbad Behera, honorary secretary of Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) and Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) at the KIIT University ground here today. KIIT KPL
Speaking on the occasion, Behera announced that some Ranji Trophy matches and Odisha Premier League (for women) would be held at the KIIT cricket ground.

He assured that OCA will provide all possible support for the maintenance of the KIIT cricket ground.

The week-long tournament, to be concluded on February 7, would be played on league basis and in the T-20 format under floodlights.

Eight universities including three from Odisha are participating in the tournament.

The teams are Delhi University, Symbiosis University; Andhra University, Jain University, SRM University, Utkal University, Ravenshaw University and the hosts, KIIT University.

The champion team would receive a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh while the runner-up team would get 1.5 lakh.

The cash prizes for the third and fourth placed teams would be Rs 50,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

This apart, a team would get Rs 10,000 for every win.

The founder, KIIT & KISS Dr Achyuta Samant, vice chancellor, KIIT University Prof PP Mathur and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
