Bhubaneswar: Though the Centre has not given any confirmation on increasing salaries beyond the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, Central Government employees can have another reason to cheer for.
If sources are to be believed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi government might allow Central Government employees to avail an option of travelling abroad under Leave Travel Concession (LTC). However, the countries they can visit will be decided by the government. And, the employees might be allowed to visit at least 10 nations initially.
Sources said a proposal in this regard has been finalized by the Labor Ministry. The ministry has sought suggestions from departments concerned, including Home, Tourism and Civil Aviation. The move is believed to help the Modi government have an advantage in the upcoming general elections.
Central Government employees eligible under the LTC are discharged and the money spent on their tickets gets refunded. Hopefully, the Government will make the big announcements for central employees soon.
Currently, around 50 lakh Central Government employees can avail leave and interest free advance to travel within the country. Earlier in March, the government had said that it has postponed the proposal of LTC to allow the CG employees to travel to the SAARC countries.
