7th Pay Commission: Salary hike for Central Govt employees in a week?

Bhubaneswar: Let the central government employees keep their fingers crossed for a big announcement likely to be made by the Centre on Independence Day.

If sources are to be believed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to announce a hike in the minimum pay beyond the 7th Pay Commission on a big national holiday (August 15).

If the long-standing demand of Central Government employees is approved, the minimum pay will jump to Rs 26,000 from Rs 18,000. And, the fitment factor will see a rise of 3.68 per cent benefitting around 48.41 lakh employees.

Meanwhile, Central government employees say the demand is justified since rise in inflation is eating into their salaries affecting their lifestyle in a big way.

However, no clue on the major announcement from the Government side has been obtained yet. Earlier, Government sources had said CG employees are advised not to believe the speculations doing the rounds in Media, though the issue is still under consideration and work on the same is underway.

Besides, demands have also been there to increase the retirement age as was originally proposed by Madhya Pradesh government. The Prime Minister is most likely to raise the issues during his address on Independence Day.
