8 arrested from Puri Bada Danda for demanding protection money

Puri: As part of its special drive against collection of protection money, Puri police today arrested eight more persons from Bada Danda (Grand Road) following raids.

The Town police also seized two knives and Rs 800 cash from there possession.

The eight are Surya Naraya Jena alias Chagala (36), Ranjan Kumar Sahoo (42), Siba Khillar (22), Santosh Bhoi alias Ghusuri (28), Laxman Prusty alias Papi (30), Bhimasen Khuntia (43), Rakesh Kumar Rout alias Saumya (21), and Jagannath Prusty alias Baban (23), all residents of Puri.

Police said over 20 persons accused of collecting protection money have been arrested so far. Ten of them were arrested yesterday.

Earlier on March 31, a group of people had assaulted a street vendor on Bada Danda demanding protection money.
