8 indicators you are running low on immunity

Bhubaneswar: If you are frequently falling sick or had bouts of infections lately, then all might not be well with your body’s defense mechanism. That could be an indicator that your immune system is probably underperforming.

A person’s ability to fight infections, heal cuts and wounds and recover fast from a severe disease, depends on his immune system. It is basically a complex network of cells, tissues and organs that works in tandem to fight infections and keep people healthy. Hence, a properly functioning immune system is quite imperative for a person to stay healthy.

However, several factors like improper diet, lack of sleep, excess smoking and alcoholism gradually weaken people’s immune system thus, making them vulnerable to infections and diseases.

Here are eight signs indicating your immune system might be getting weaker:

Dry or gritty eyes

Any sort of eye irritation, redness, dryness or even feeling like having grit in the eyes is a common sign that your immune system is getting weaker.  This is called Sjogren’s syndrome. Basically, in this condition, tears that keep eyes moist, dry up and the person gradually develops a blurry vision and might even damage the cornea.

Bowel problems

A disruption in smooth functioning of the immune system also triggers diarrhea, bloating, belly pain, etc under conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Skin rashes

Another precursor of a weakening immune system is skin rashes like eczema. In such conditions, your immune system attacks your own skin cells thus causing inflammation.  Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis are two most common diseases in this area.

Cold hands and feet

If you have cold and pale palms or feet, you might be suffering from Raynaud’s disease. It’s an autoimmune condition whereby the blood flow to a person’s hands and feet, slows down.

Sun sensitivity

With a weak immune system, you are quite exposed to sunburns and skin irritation due to sensitivity to sunlight. In that case, sunglasses face covers and SPF sunscreens are your best friends.

Hair fall

This might come as a shocker but one of the many reasons people experience excess hair fall is a weak immune system. It leads to problems like plaque psoriasis of the scalp that results in hair fall in patches.

Fatigue

Even the least physical activities like walking make you tired and exhaustion is what you feel all the time. That’s also a precursor to a weak immune system.

Joint pain

If you are suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, a condition in which your joints go stiff, swell and cause severe pain, your immune system might not be as strong as it should be.
