8 killed in rain, flood-related mishaps in Odisha: SRC   

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government today confirmed that total eight people in the state have been killed due to heavy rain and flood-related incidents.

Informing this at a presser, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said Odisha has recorded an average rainfall of over 100 mm in the last 24 hours with Karlamunda block of Kalahandi district registering the maximum rainfall of 608 mm.​

As recorded at 8.30 AM today, Bolangir has recorded the maximum 226.3 mm rainfall followed by Boudh (169.7 mm), Kalahandi (160.4 mm), Sonepur (139. 9 mm) and Kandhamal (125 mm), the SRC informed.

“Two blocks in Kalahandi and Bolangir districts have recorded more than 400 mm rainfall while four blocks in the districts witnessed rainfall of more than 300 mm. Besides, four blocks in the two districts recorded rainfall of between 200 and 300 mm and 40 blocks between 100 mm and 200 mm rain,”he added.

He further informed that all major rivers in the state are flowing below the danger level.

“Seven ODRAF teams along with Fire Service personnel have been pressed into service for rescue operation in Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts,” he added.
