8-month pregnant woman strangled to death by hubby in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband over domestic discord in Odisha’s Kandhamal district yesterday.

The incident took place at Tentuligada village under Tikabali police limits in Kandhamal. Deceased Reshma Kanhar was eight-month pregnant, police said today.

The police have detained Reshma’s husband Ishwar Kanhar for questioning in connection with the incident.

Reshma, daughter of Gokul Kanhar of Shankarakhola panchayat under Chakapada block, had tied the knot with Ishwar around a year ago.

Ishwar was regularly torturing Reshma over dowry. The couple got engaged in an argument over some issues yesterday. In a fit of rage, Ishwar strangled Reshma to death, sources said.

On being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem after registering a case in this regard.
