8 students injured after picnic bus rams into truck in Odisha’s Subarnapur; 2 critical

Sonepur: As many as eight students of a picnic party sustained grievous injuries today as the bus in which they were travelling hit a stationary truck from behind near Khambeswaripali-Kadamtala locality on Khurda-Bolangir NH-57 in Subarnapur district.

The injured were identified as students of a private computer institute located in Sonepur town.

According to a source, some students of the computer institute had gone to Deomali in Koraput district for picnicking, yesterday. The picnickers were on their way back when they met with an accident early in the morning. Around 45 male and female students were travelling by the bus.

The injured were rescued by some locals and were rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Sonepur town for treatment. However, two of them were later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla after their conditions deteriorated.

“The fatal road mishap occurred probably due to dense fog. The truck had met with an accident before when the bus hit it,” an eyewitness expressed.

In another incident in the morning, around 20 college students sustained injuries as a bus carrying the picnickers hit a truck on NH-20 near Bhalukuma in Anandpur area of Keonjhar district.
