Hello summer !!

Twin city gears up with exotic beverages which beat the heat with some amazing chilled concoctions. The intense summer heat makes life unbearable and a cool glass of your favourite mocktail is a respite from the killer sun. Odisha Sun Times did a quick roundup on a few joints which are popular as summer quenchers and serves some  exquisite beverages and here goes our list:

1.Chilly chili!

Ever heard of a quencher that comes with chili and tastes spicy? Why would anyone even drink that during a 40 degree Celsius hot summer? But wait a second! Chef Riyaaz Kasim of Tyre Patty can make one such drink. “I had seen something like that in Kolkata. So I decided to try out a similar drink here. Made with lemon juice, Sprite, capsico sauce, sugar syrup, black salt, green chili and crushed ice, the drink called Fire on Ice has become a summer favourite. It is mildly spicy yet soothingly cool.” Other specialties of Tyre Patty include the April Lady and the thick and tummy-filling Mango slush for Rs. 81 each. And all of these liquid delights come in square-shaped jars!

2.Virgin Mojito

virginBlast, a roof top restaurant in Cuttack is trending with the favourite mocktail Virgin Mojito. It is one of the most sought after drinks among the youngsters during summer.  “Mojito of 400ml is priced at Rs 120. Footfalls in our restaurant have increased because of this one drink,” said Swamit Kumar Sahoo, co-owner of  Blast .

3. Chocolate Munk

And how can we not bring you a coolant from the pocket-friendly Khaao Gali of Bhubaneswar? The Mexican food outlet, Qudoba has come up with a frothy and chilling chocolate drink, called the Chocolate Munk for just Rs. 60. The guy behind the counter, Arjun says, “It has been whipped up from soda base with vanilla ice-cream, ice cubes, chocolate and sugar syrup.” For those liquid chocolate cravings, Choclate Munk can be a turn-to mocktail.

4. Classis Cool Blue

There is nothing more appeasing than a cool mocktail at the end of a really hot and long tiring day.Munch @ Mikey’s serves Cool Blue, which is a citric and syrupy blend of lemon juice and syrup, topped with mint leaves and lemons with a lot of ice cubes. While you are looking at the mocktail menu we can swear by the Classic Lemonade and Cold Coffee for you to try out. The price range of the quenchers varies from Rs 50-Rs 70.

5. Green Apple Mojito Soda

A hot spot for mocktail lovers in the capital city,  Bling It On restaurant in Hotel Marrion  is an oasis for exotic mocktails. No doubt they are expensive but people who can afford it make a beeline for this chill out joint. Sujit Kumar Behera, Assistant Food & Beverage Manager told us that Virgin Mojito  is served with fresh mint leaves (pudina) and Green Apple Mojito Soda  has mint syrup in it and both are very much in demand. Mango Soda,Virgin Pinnacolada, Lichee Sky, Sunset Mango, Water melon Mojito and Red Cindrela  all are priced  at Rs 275 with taxes. The iced lemon tea, iced coffee, iced Cappuchino with ice cream are some of the  other favourites  and is mostly in demand by middle aged customers or business people who usually come here for informal  meetings.

6. Spicy masala cold drink

Old is definitely gold ! This cold drink kiosk (believe it or not) was set up 90 years ago by one Binod Nangalia. However, his son-in-law Trilok Aggarwal manages the business now.  “Usually my customers come all the way from Bhubaneswar even during the hot summers,” said Trilok . The old loyalists of Simona Masala Coldrinks make beeline for tall tumblers of cold drinks blended with different masalas. Not faring well because of cut-throat competition, they continue to offer this fabulous appetizing drink for Rs 25.

7. Attention cold coffee lovers!

Coffee Mocha, a beautiful blend of chocolate, milk and topped with lots of choco chips, this delicious drink can relax you during the scorching summer in Café Corner. Priced at  just Rs 40 it is one of the popular beverages in demand. They also offer a wide variety of cold coffee options - Vanila with chocolate, Chocolate with chocochips and milkshakes like Black currant, Strawberry etc.

8. Colorful chuskis

Sucking on an icy chuski is the best way to beat the unbearable heat of Odisha and has its own charm. Surabhi Chuski is the best place in Cuttack for the chuski lovers. You can find some mouth watering Kala khatta, Mint green, Orange chuski, Maharaja mango etc flavors of chuski here.  When Yunush  started the stall the price of the chuski was 5.25 paisa, now the price is Rs 10.
