81 new Plus Two colleges in Odisha this year; 24 closed

Students who passed Class X this year will have 81 new Plus Two colleges to choose from when the process of admission to junior colleges begins in Odisha on June 8. These 81 colleges would be vying to attract students along with existing government and private Plus Two colleges in the state.

On the other hand, the state government has decided to close down 24 private colleges from this year. Of these 24 colleges, there has been no admission in 14 in the last few years while the rest 10 lack the required infrastructure.

Of the 14 Plus two colleges where there has been no admission in the recent years, nine are Science colleges and five Commerce colleges.

Of these 14 Plus Two colleges, four Science colleges and two Commerce colleges are in Bhubaneswar, two Science colleges in Puri, one Commerce college in Pipili, one Science college in Brahmapur, one Commerce college in Gania, one Science college in Chhendipada and one Commerce college at Nuasahi in Baleswar.

Of the other 10 Plus Two colleges, which are set to be closed due to lack of necessary infrastructure, four are Science colleges in Bhubaneswar, one Science college at CDA in Cuttack, one Science college at Madanpur in Khordha district, one Commerce college at Nuasahi in Baleswar district and one Science college each at Tentuliapur, Taraboi (Khordha), and Nimapada (Puri).

The decision to close down these 24 colleges was taken by a committee at a recent meeting presided over by the secretary, Higher Education.
