8kg tumour removed from minor girl’s abdomen in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A huge tumour weighing over 8kg was removed from a minor girl’s abdomen at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and Capital Hospital here on Friday.

The tumour was removed following a 3-hour-long surgery conducted by a team of doctors led by Professor Dr Srikant Patra at the Capital Hospital.

According to reports, the minor girl from Baramunda area in Bhubaneswar was suffering from severe abdominal pain for several time. As she did not get relief after primary treatment for a long time, she visited the Surgery OPD of the Capital Hospital two weeks back.

Following medical examination, she was diagnosed with a gigantic tumour in her abdomen. On the doctors’ suggestion, the patient was admitted to the state-run hospital and the surgery was conducted yesterday morning.

The team of doctors extracted a tumour weighing more than 8kg from the patient’s abdomen in the surgery that lasted for 3 hours.

Dr Patra said that the complicated operations will be carried out at the hospital for free in future and more medical facilities will be provided to common people.
