Freetown/Bhubaneswar: At least 91 persons died on Friday following a massive explosion caused by a fuel tanker colliding with a lorry in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown.

Following the collision, fuel spilled everywhere, quickly catching fire before an inferno engulfed vehicles and bystanders resulting in the deaths of scores of people. Videos broadcast by local media and clips circulating on social media paint a disturbing picture of bodies charred in the area of the mishap.

Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio took to social media to write that he was, "deeply disturbed by the tragic fires and the horrendous loss of life".

Besides the death of 91 people (so far), more than a hundred others are being treated for burn injuries.

The location of the mishap is believed to be outside the busy Choithram Supermarket in the densely populated Wellington suburb.

According to local reports, a bus full of people was completely burnt while shops were engulfed in massive flames.
