A day after being lodged in jail, prisoner ends life in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: An inmate of Sambalpur Circle Jail allegedly died by suicide, a day after being lodged in the prison.

The deceased was identified as Dharanidhara Mahananda (35) of Sindurapanka area under Sadar police limits. His body was found hanging with a gamcha from the skylight of a bathroom of the jail, this morning.

According to reports, he was arrested in a family dispute case and lodged in the jail, yesterday.

As he was found hanging, the jail authorities rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.
