Aadhaar linkage mandatory for paddy procurement in Odisha

From now onwards Aadhaar Card will be a mandatory requirement during paddy procurement in Odisha, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Principal Secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra here today.

“All farmers will be paid online for paddy procurement. Payments will be directly credited to the bank account of farmers from Odisha State Cooperative Bank,” Mohapatra said.

The Principal Secretary said the decision was taken at a review meeting held over Aadhaar Card linkage here today. The review meeting was chaired by state Chief Secretary A P Padhi, he added.

“Not only for paddy procurement payments, Aadhaar Card, will be a mandatory requirement for National Food Security Scheme (NFSS) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS). As of now, 68% people have Aadhaar Card, others will be provided with the same very soon,” the Principal Secretary said.

“To maintain transparency in the Public Distribution System (PDS) Point of Sale (POS) machines will be installed at all retailer points from October,” he added.
