hundreds of Aadhar cards were found lying in a bush near a country liquor shop of Bhagwanpur village on the Dhenkanal-Kapilas Road on Dec 23.

Members of the district bar association had written to the postal superintendent seeking a clarification after the report was carried prominently in the media.

The lawyers also demanded that the cards be collected and distributed among the intended recipients as soon as possible and an inquiry conducted into the episode to find out the culprits and punish them as per law. They threatened to halt the postal services if the superintendent did not pay heed to the demands.

After public outrage and demands by lawyers, the superintendent has set up an internal inquiry into the episode and assured prompt action against the guilty on Monday, once the investigation is over and the deputy superintendent is back in office.

“Lack of postal peons could be the reason for it. Also, sending the cards through speed post would have ensured that such an incident did not take place,” he told OST.
