Malkangiri: Days after a doctor was allegedly abducted by Maoists from Kalimela in Odisha's Malkangiri district, police have traced his whereabouts to Karnataka and dismissed claims that he was kidnapped. The doctor, identified as Amlan Kumar Bhoi, was a native of Bhoi Sahi under Tikabali police limits in Kandhamal district. He was working at Kalimela Community Health Centre in Malkangiri district and allegedly kidnapped by Maoists from his residence on June 1 night.
As per reports, Dr Bhoi had an argument with some locals over post-mortem of a body at the CHC which led to his abduction.
Dr Bhoi's family had claimed that the Red Rebels kidnapped him and even left a note behind. They had also met Kandhamal district Collector, and Superintendent of Police (SP) and appealed for a safe rescue of the victim.
On being informed, Kalimela police initiated a probe on June 2. Investigation revealed that the doctor was in Karnataka and ruled out his abduction. It is still unclear how the events unfolded and the doctor was found in Karnataka.
Addressing mediapersons, Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani informed that Dr Bhoi's health was stable and he was not kidnapped. "There was no abduction. The doctor was traced to Karnataka and found in good health. Efforts are underway to bring him back," he stated.
