Abducted youth found dead in Odisha’s Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: A youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, two days after he was allegedly abducted by some unidentified persons in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The deceased has been identified as Dipu Patra of K. Kharida village under Kabisuryanagar Police Station in Ganjam.

Dipu’s body was found near a pond in Kodala area of Ganjam district on Sunday. His body bore several deep injuries. It is suspected that he has been killed by the abductors, sources said.

Kodala police seized the body and sent it for postmortem.

Dipu was allegedly abducted by some unidentified persons while he was returning home from a court at Kodala on October 6 (Friday).

Dipu’s family members had lodged a complaint in this regard with Kabisuryanagar police on the same day.

His family also approached Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena on October 7 after police failed to trace and rescue Dipu from the abductors, sources said.

Dipu’s family members informed Ganjam SP that the abductors had tortured him and sent videos of the same to the mobile phone of his younger brother.

The Ganjam SP had constituted a special team led by Purusottampur SDPO and Kodala police IIC to rescue the youth, sources added.
