Abhinav Bindra Foundation picks SSI as centre of excellence partner 

Bhubaneswar: City-based Sports Science India (SSI), a sports medicine and rehab centre, has been chosen as the latest centre of excellence partner of the Abhinav Bindra Foundation (ABF).

On Friday, the Abhinav Bindra Foundation announced this on its social media profiles.

“Introducing our next centre of excellence partner, Sports Science India, Dr. Sarthak Patnaik, Bhubaneshwar. Through Sport of Life, we provide budding athletes timely & affordable surgeries, recovery & rehabilitation facilities,” the post read.

 

SSI is the first Sports Medicine Centre of Odisha and eastern India.  It was designed by seasoned sports surgery and sports medicine expert Dr Sarthak Patnaik and his brother Soumya Patnaik. Founded in 2015, the multidisciplinary sports medicine practices’ centre works with the motto-‘Prevent Injury Prolong Career.’

Dr Sarthak Patnaik, founder and director of SSI, has been working in the field for over six years now and has treated several national and international athletes including India’s Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra and Commonwealth gold medalist Ravi Kumar. Through SSI, he has been treating several sports players at zonal, district and state level and giving them medical care.

SSI has been serving players at various disciplines including T20 International Series, National Para Athletic Championship 2022, India National Rugby Union Team, India Ice Hockey Team, Odisha Football Academy and Odisha Ranji Cricket Team. The team comprises of sports medicine specialist, sports surgeons, sports physiotherapist, sports psychologist and nutrition specialists.

“Since we have been helping lots of sport players from zonal to state and national levels, the Abhinav Bindra Foundation recognized our work and approached me to be one of its centres of excellence,” Dr. Patnaik told Sambad English.

Narrating how the centres would collaborate to offer joint services, he said, “Whenever a player, who’s poor but certified on district, state or national level and comes under the annexure, would require any surgical or medicinal treatment, SSI and ABF will help them monetarily and I will help them with my surgery skills. This apart, Healthium Medtech Limited will provide us the necessary implants for the same.”

Dr Patnaik also added that SSI is now providing internships. Students from Utkal University and also Nagpur University are interning with the centre in sports psychology.

Abhinav Bindra Foundation has been working to drive awareness around sports injuries and by offering high-quality facilities, treatment options and resources that will help athletes to rebuild their career post-surgical intervention. The foundation that already has its centres of excellence in cities like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur and Lucknow, has now added Bhubaneswar in the list.
