AC coach of Puri-Durg Express catches fire near Khariar Road in Odisha 

Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the passengers of Puri-Durg Express as an AC coach of the train caught fire near Khariar Road in Nuapada district of Odisha today.

The AC coach caught fire due to certain glitches in the brake shoe at around 10 pm, sources said.

On being informed, the Fire Brigade personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. No one was injured in the incident, sources added.

“In B3 coach of 18426 at Khariar Rd station arrival at 2207 hrs. The brakes were not released after ACP(alarm chain pulling). The brake pads caught fire due to friction due to incomplete release of brakes. No fire inside the coach. Fire at brake pads. No other damage. The problem was rectified and train departed at 2300 hrs.,” ECoR said in a statement.

The incident took place a day after six labourers were run over by a goods train at Jajpur Road railway station.

Similarly, a major train mishap near Bahanaga railway station in Balasore district of Odisha on June 2 had claimed the lives of 288 passengers and caused injuries to over 1,000 others.
