Accountants General to carry out audit of 151 Odisha mutts and temples
Bhubaneswar: The Law department has approved a proposal given by the Endowment Commissioner for an audit of 151 religious mutts and temples in Odisha.
Once a notification in this regard will be published by the State government, the Accountants General (AG) will carry out an audit of the mutts and temples.
Earlier the AG had carried out an audit of 61 temples and mutts. Of them, financial irregularities were found in 99% of religious monasteries and temples.
Also, the Endowment department has recommended Crime Branch for an inquiry after the AG identified financial irregularities of Rs 3.11 crore at the Rajadhani Puja Committee following an audit, said sources.
Process for recovery of the misappropriated money from the then trustees and members of temples and mutts has also begun, sources added.
Worth mentioning, a total of 17,472 temples and 459 mutts are functioning under the Endowment department.
