Accused held in theft case flees from hospital in Odisha, arrested later

Cuttack: An accused arrested in a theft case escaped from the SCB Medical College and Hospital here in wee hours today. The accused identified as Alok Sahoo, a resident of Dhanatri village in Konark of Puri district,  was undergoing treatment in medicine ward ICU of the hospital.

According to reports, Alok was arrested on January 4 on charges of stealing from a liquor shop at Raghunathpur area in Jagatsinghpur district. He was brought to the Raghunathpur Police Station for interrogation where he had allegedly consumed phenyl in toilet. The police rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to a hospital in Raghunathpur from where he was later referred to the SCB Hospital.

Sources said that two police officials were deployed at the hospital. However, the accused managed to flee amidst security. A case has been lodged at Mangalabag Police Station in Cuttack in this regard. Police launched manhunt to nab the accused.

Later, the Commissionerate Police arrested Alok from Pithapur area.
