Accused in Mamita Meher murder case torched her mobile phone: Police

Bhubaneswar: The prime accused in woman teacher Mamita Meher murder case, Govind Sahu has destroyed most of the evidences while burning the victim’s body, informed a senior police official today.

Speaking to media persons DIG (northern range) Deepak Kumar said accused Sahu has torched most of the evidences including Mamita’s mobile phone while burning the woman teacher’s body. However, search is on to collect more evidence from the spot, the DIG added.

“Based on the outcome of scene recreation, investigation into the murder case will progress. We have collected more evidence from the spot,” the DIG said.

Earlier in the day, the Balangir police released two persons – Puskar Bhoi and Munsi Gupteswar Tandi, who were detained in connection with the murder case. After Bhoi and Tandi turned approvers, the police released the duo today evening.

Yesterday Govind Sahu, the main accused in Mamita Meher murder case, confessed to killing the woman teacher. A day later the Balangir police arrested his associate Radheshyam Chandi alias Radhe and produced him before Bangomunda SDJM court.

Worth mentioning, Sahu strangulated the woman teacher in his car on October 8 and chopped her body into pieces. The accused then took the body to an under-construction stadium site near the school for disposal. He then burnt the body with the help of cardboard and tyre before burying it the next morning.

Notably, Puskar Bhoi had dug a pit at Mahaling stadium with the help of a JCB and Munsi Gupteswar Tandi was an employee of Sunshine Model School, Mahaling.

The police exhumed the woman teacher’s body on October 19.
