Accused man manages to flee from police custody in Odisha’s Cuttack; manhunt launched

Narasinghpur: A man, who was accused in a case, gave the slip to Kanpur police yesterday and fled from the spot prior to being produced before the Executive Magistrate in Narasinghpur of Cuttack district.

The fugitive has been identified as 30-year-old Bapuji Rout, who hails from Paika Barabati village.

According to a source, two accused persons were taken to the Magistrate-cum-tehsildar Manoj Kumar Majhi’s court. Bapuji fled from the front of local tehsil office. An on-duty police team had to wait at the court from 3.00 pm to 7.00 pm and there was an unusual delay in the process before they were to be produced. Taking advantage of this, accused Bapuji escaped due to alleged security lapses.

A joint team of Kanpur and Narasinghpur police have launched a manhunt to nab the man following the bizarre incident. However, the runaway accused has not been traced yet, despite a frantic search.
