Accusing cops of abuse, Odisha villagers ransack police station

Bhubaneswar: A group of villagers allegedly ransacked Ambabhona police station in Odisha’s Bargarh district protesting the alleged abuse by cops today.

The villagers allegedly damaged doors, windows and furniture of the police station to vent their anger, sources said.

According to sources, a team of Ambabhona police today raided Tamadei village on suspicion of illegal ganja trade.

The police allegedly hurled abuses at the villagers after they failed to trace anything regarding the illegal trade, sources added.

“The police team raided our village in the afternoon. An argument ensued between the police and the locals after the former could not find anything regarding the illegal ganja trade. Soon the police hurled abuses at the locals,” said a villager.

Protesting the abuse, at least 50 villagers reportedly ransacked Ambabhona police station in the evening. Despite making all efforts, the police personnel could not resist the angry villagers, sources added.
