Aditya Dash’s death: NHRC seeks ATR from Commissionerate Police in 4 weeks

Bhubaneswar:The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from Commissionerate Police over the death of social activist and motivational speaker Aditya Dash within four weeks.

The move came after Supreme Court lawyer and social activist Radhakanta Tripathy lodged a complaint on July 24 alleging that Aditya, whose body was retrieved from railway tracks, was murdered.

Acting on the complaint, the NHRC passed the order on July 27 and warned the Commissionerate Police, “In case the ATR is not received within the stipulated time, the Commission will be constrained to invoke coercive process Under Section – 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 for personal appearance of the concerned authority.”

Worth mentioning, Aditya was found dead on railway tracks near Lingaraj Temple Road railway station here on July 7.

“As wife and friends of the deceased are engaged in mudslinging, the cloak of mystery is yet to be lifted from the death of the social worker, who was receiving threats from criminals as he launched an anti- liquor agitation,” the petitioner said.

Besides, the CCTV footage of the railway station where Aditya was killed is missing while the post-mortem report, his hand written diary, the forensic laboratory and circumstantial evidence shroud mystery over the death of the social activist, he added.

“The delay in arresting the culprits, exposing the truth and uncovering the mystery over the death poses serious question of human rights as it involves role of police, intelligence and law and order of the state,” Tripathy contended.
