Administration of precaution dose of COVID vaccine begins in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Administration of precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine to persons above 60 years of age having comorbidities, healthcare workers and frontline workers began across vaccination centres in Odisha, today.

Those belonging to the above mentioned categories and have received second dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least nine months ago are eligible for the precaution dose.

As per Health Department sources, messages will be sent to the phone numbers of the eligible persons once the gap of nine months is reached.

Those eligible to receive precaution dose of the vaccine can book online appointment on CoWIN portal. The Health ministry has said that there would not be any need for new registration of such beneficiaries.

“Those who have taken 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine can directly take an appointment or walk-in to any vaccination centre,” the ministry said.

The ministry has also made it clear that the precautionary COVID vaccine dose will be the same vaccine as given to the beneficiaries previously as primary dose. Those who have received Covaxin primarily will receive Covaxin as precautionary dose and those who have received primary two doses of Covishield will receive Covishield.

The persons who have comorbidities like blood pressure, kidney problem and other health issues can get the jabs after consulting their doctors.
