After 4 days, bodies of mother-daughter duo to be cremated in Odisha

Kendrapara: Four days after mysterious deaths of a woman and her daughter in Rajnagar area of Kendrapara district, the bodies will be  cremated today.

The death mystery of mother-daughter duo had sparked tension among villagers at Manapada. Earlier in the day,  the irate locals gheraoed tehsildar, IIC and BDO, who visited the spot where the bodies have been lying in the last four days, demanding arrest of the persons involved in an alleged double murder case.

According to reports, a woman identified as Pramila Nath, wife of Patitapaban Nath of Manapada village, and her daughter were found dead under a mysterious circumstance four days ago.

A local source said that Pramila was missing since September 19. The next day, her body was found in a river. Meanwhile, the body of her daughter Satyapriya Nath was also recovered in a village pond on the same day.

The autopsy report of deceased daughter revealed that she was eight-month pregnant.

Instead of cremating the bodies following post-mortem, the villagers kept those in front of Patitapaban’s house alleging murder of the duo. Based on allegation, the police detained one person for interrogation into the alleged double murder case.

As no arrest has been made in the case so far, the locals denied to hand over the bodies for cremation and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

Till the last report came in, the villagers called off the protest and allowed to take the bodies to crematorium following assurance from the tehsildar, IIC and BDO to arrest the culprits within 24 hours. The local administration also agreed to provide Rs 10,000 ex-gratia  to kin of the deceased persons and bear the expenses for cremation of bodies.
