After nearly 2 months, flight service between Bhubaneswar, Rourkela resumes

Bhubaneswar: After a gap of nearly two months, the flight service between Odisha capital and Rourkela resumed on Monday.

The flight service between the capital city and the Steel City of Rourkela had been suspended since December 11, sources said.

The flight service resumed after a gap of almost 50 days. At least 26 passengers today availed the flight service from Bhubaneswar while 46 passengers boarded the flight at Rourkela, sources said.

The flight reached Rourkela airport at 3.50 pm and began the return journey to Bhubaneswar at 4.20 pm, sources added.

It is worth mentioning here that the special VFR (Visual Flight Rules) operation is yet to begin at Rourkela airport.

Under the special VFR operation, flight landing is possible with a minimum visibility of 1,500 metre or more if the pilot can see the ground.

At present, flight landing at Rourkela requires a minimum visibility of 5,000 metres. As a result, the flight operations at Rourkela airport are frequently suspended due to bad weather, said a source.

Sources, meanwhile, claimed that the direct flight service between Rourkela and Kolkata is likely to resume on Tuesday (January 30).
