After three days of servitors’ protest, rituals resume at Odisha’s Lingaraj Temple

As per reports, the neetis (rites) had been stalled on the New Year during puja of the Bhog Mandap after there was some conflict between servitor groups

Bhubaneswar: After three days of opposition by the sevayats (priests), rituals resumed at the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The stalemate was resolved following intervention of the Collector and meeting of the Trust Board.

As per reports, the neetis (rites) had been stalled on the New Year during puja of the Bhog Mandap after there was some conflict between servitor groups. Following the dispute, the cooking of bhog had been disrupted. The temple administration had then tried to resolve the tension by getting all the servitors together on Monday but two groups Brahman Nijog and Puja Panda Nijog had boycotted the meet. On Tuesday, after the Collector convened a meeting of heads of all servitor groups and the conflict was resolved after the latter were assured that all their concerns would be met soon after.

Subsequently, the rituals resumed at around 11.30 am and devotees got a chance for the darshan as well as taking the religious offerings or bhog.
