Agni-5 missile successfully test-fired off Odisha coast

Bhadrak: India today successfully test-fired Agni-5 from Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Abdul Kalam Island, formerly known as Wheeler Island in Bhadrak district of Odisha.

The ballistic missile was tested from launch pad number 4 at around 9.50 am.

The indigenously developed intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable missile was fired with a strike range of 5,000 km to 8,000 km that can reach almost all parts of China.

The 17-metre long and 2-metre wide weighs around 50 tonnes. It can carry a nuclear warhead of more than one tonne.

This was for the sixth time the missile was tested successfully. The missile was last tested on January 18 this year. The first test of Agni-5 was conducted on April 19, 2012. Later, the test was conducted on September 15, 2013, the third on January 31, 2015 and fourth on December 26, 2016 from ITR.

Agni-5 will be inducted into tri-service after few more trials.
