‘Agyan Mala’ ritual held on chariots ahead of Ratha Jatra in Odisha

Puri: The ‘Agyan Mala’ ritual was held today on the chariots ahead of world famous Ratha Jatra scheduled tomorrow.

The Pujapanda servitors of Puri Srimandir conducted the ritual on three chariots — Nandighosha, Taladhwaja and Darpadalan — a day before Ratha Jatra of Lord Jagannath in Odisha’s pilgrim city.

With the Agyan Mala Bije ritual, the three chariots will move from Ratha Khala to Singha Dwara from where Lord Jagannath along with siblings and Sudarshan will board the chariots towards Gundicha Temple tomorrow.

The preparation is in full swing by the daita servitors and temple administration for 9-day festival of deities.

“All the rituals will be held in time during Ratha Jatra. Puri Shankaracharya will also visit to have darshan of deities on chariots,” informed Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Pradipta Mohapatra.

Though the restriction has been imposed on the devotees from climbing the chariots, they can touch the holy chariots on Ratha Jatra.

“The devotees can touch the chariots, but are not allowed to climb those,” Mohapatra said.
