‘Ahe Nilashaila’ to be staged at Odisha’s Puri town for Parikrama Project inauguration

Bhubaneswar: Historical play ‘Ahe Nilashaila’ of Choklate Productions will be staged at Odisha’s Puri town during the inauguration of Jagannath Temple Heritage Corridor project.

The play, which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, will be staged in front of the Nakachana Gate of Srigundicha temple at the Holy Town on January 18.

“Historical play Ahe Nilashaila will be staged at Sharadhabali in front of Srigundicha temple at 6.30 pm on January 18 (Thursday),” said Choklate Productions in a statement today.

The script of the popular play has been written by Shankar Tripathy and Dr. Pratima Hota while Lala Biren Ray is the director of the play.

The play depicts how the then King Gajapati Ramchandra Deva had to undergo untold miseries for protecting Lord Jagannath from the evil eyes of Naib Nazim. Its story is partially inspired by Sahitya Akademi Award-winning Odia author Surendra Mohanty’s famous novel ‘Nila Shaila’.

The play features actors Lawrence Behera (Gajapati Ramchandra Deva), Sofia Alam (Maharani), Prakash Jena (Mohammed Taqi Khan), Shraddha Panigrahi (Rezia) and Manisha Rath (Sardei), among others.
