Ahoi Ashtami is celebrated around 8 days before Diwali on Krishna Paksha Ashtami. The fasting and puja on Ahoi Ashtami are dedicated to Mata Ahoi or Goddess Ahoi. She is worshiped by mothers for the well-being and long life of their children.

Fast is broken during twilight after sighting stars in the sky. Some women break the fast after sighting the moon.
