Air connectivity to Odisha’s Rourkela from Jan 23!

Rourkela: Good news for Rourkelites! Flight services to Kolkata and Bhubaneswar are likely to start from Odisha’s Steel City under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme from 23rd of this month.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary A P Padhi in Bhubaneswar.

Since the airstrip belongs to Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) an MoU needs to be signed between Airport Authority of India (AAI), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and State government for operation of commercial flights. The draft of the MoU has been prepared. Under the MoU the airport will be transferred to AAI.

All secondary work including construction of signal tower and boundary wall have been completed.

“The draft MoU has been approved. They have decided to start operations immediately after inking of MoU between AAI, SAIL and State government. They are searching for an operator. They have told me that after finalizing an operator they will start operations by the end of this month, tentatively from 23rd,” informed Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray.
