Air Odisha wins bid for regional connectivity scheme UDAN

Homegrown carrier Air Odisha reportedly won bid for operate fights to remote and unconnected airports at subsidized fares under UDAN scheme.

According to news agency, Air Odisha is among Deccan Charter, Alliance Air, Turbo Megha Airways and Spice Jet who have won bids to operate flights under UDAN (Ude Desh Ke Aam Naagrik) scheme.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) had received 43 proposals from 11 bidders for as many as 190 routes under the scheme for which fares were capped at Rs 2500 for one-hour flight.

Recently, the Union government has included five destinations in Odisha – Bhubaneswar, Jeypore, Jharsuguda, Rourkela and Utkela (Kalahandi district) in the scheme.

As per reports, there are 75 operational aerodromes currently in the country. After the implementation of UDAN, the number of operational airports will rise to 118.
