Bhubaneswar: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed a new in-charge for party’s Odisha unit.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge has appointed Dr Ajoy Kumar as the new in-charge of the Congress party in Odisha, said a notification issued by party’s general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal today.
Kumar replaced A Chellakumar as the party’s Odisha in-charge. He has been given the additional charge of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, added the notification.
Chellakumar has been made the new Congress in-charge for Meghalaya, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, said the notification.
Kumar, a former IPS officer, had earlier served as the president of Congress party in Jharkhand. He had been elected to the Lok Sabha from Jamshedpur constituency in the neighbouring state, sources said.
Kumar is a trained doctor and he had obtained his MBBS degree from a medical college in Puducherry in 1985, sources added.
