Akshaya Misra recommended for appointment as Odisha HC judge

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of judicial officer Dr. Akshaya Kumar Misra as the judge of Orissa High Court.

Dr. Misra was among four recommendees for elevation to the Orissa High Court. However, the Collegium of the apex court comprised of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph recommended Dr Misra’s name for appointment as the judge of Orissa High Court.

“As regards Dr. Akshaya Kumar Mishra, we have had the occasion to interact with him. On the basis of interaction and having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Dr. Akshaya Kumar Mishra, is suitable for elevation for appointment as a Judge of the Orissa High Court,” stated a notification issued by the Supreme Court on October 31.

Notably, the then Chief Justice of Orissa HC had sent a proposal on May 18 this year recommending four judicial officers — Satyanarayan Mishra, Bibhu Prasad Routray, Gautam Sharma and Dr. Akshaya Kumar Misra — for the appointment of judges of Orissa High Court.

After carefully scrutinizing the record of the judicial officers recommended for the post of judge in the Orissa High Court, the apex court Collegium only approved Dr Misra’s name for the appointment of the judge in the High Court.

The Collegium observed that the three recommendees — Satyanarayan Mishra, Bibhu Prasad Routray and Gautam Sharma — deserve to be sent back to the Chief Justice of High Court for the reconsideration by the High Court Collegium at the appropriate time.
