Alert gangman helps avert mishap on Howrah-Mumbai up line in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Rourkela: A possible major mishap on the Howrah-Mumbai up line near Rajgangpur-Kansbahal station in Sundargarh district of Odisha was averted yesterday night due to the alertness of a gangman, railways sources said.

During routine patrolling, the gangman found that some miscreants had removed the fish plates on Howrah-Mumbai up line. He immediately informed the incident to the senior officials of railways. The gangman also raised a red flag on the railway line to alert the loco pilot.

On being informed, a technical team of Indian Railways rushed to the spot and carried out the repair work. Railway traffic was restored on the line after one hour, sources said.

The railway officials praised the gangman for his alertness and presence of mind. The railway authorities have also ordered a probe into the incident, sources added.
